Good and Evil in T-Shirt Form

I was browsing some tourist shops with the family last night when I saw this:

I would not have seen this T-shirt if it was not so prominantely displayed in the store. I immediately thought of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden. There are a few elements working together here and some Scriptures that came to mind while I was looking at the image.

First of all the most prominent image is the Yin Yang symbol in the middle of the tee. I am fairly sure that the artist had in mind the balance of nature when he drew this out, because that is what a Yin Yang represents to most people. I have been using the Yin Yang to show people what sin is. Sin is a mixture of good and evil. The white in a Yin Yang represents  what is good. The black represents what is evil. The dots are used to explain that there is always a little evil in good, and a little good in evil. This is one of the biggest lies mankind has ever swallowed. The Bible says that, “God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.” We were not created to know good and evil, but to know only what is good and leads to life. Just like we would like our children to never experience sadness or pain, God desired that for us from the beginning. What happened was that we were deceived and opted for the world of Good and Evil instead of the world of Life when the snake said this,”You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it [the forbidden tree]your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Gen. 3:4-5) We were never meant to know good and evil. When we are restored to what God originally created we will again no longer know evil. (we will not experience it or practice it.) Read Psalm 101 to see what I mean. There is no evil in what is good. If there is any evil in it… it is still evil! This is the lie we have bought. That the world can never be perfect. It can be perfect, and it will be perfect when the One who created it restores it to its former glory!

That was just the first element of the T-shirt. The other major element is the light shining out of the bottom of the tree. If you will notice the rays of the light form a triangle. At the top of this triangle is a hole in the leaves that lets the light shine through. This is a pretty good representation of illumination. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil gives illumination. We have another verse that shows this as well. “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.” (Gen 3:6). You see it was desirable to make one wise… with forbidden knowledge! The snake was the false-light bringer. He imparted ‘wisdom’ to mankind. Instead of living by God’s light which is truth, he brought in ‘wisdom’ that was not from God. It is worldly wisdom. Today we are still dealing with this worldly wisdom. It is destroying our world! Is it any wonder that the deceiver and snake still uses this same tactic. It works so well! Just look at the back of a dollar bill you will see the same image. Illumination coming from the top of a pyramid.

As you look at the shirt even further the black dot looks like it could be fruit and the branches off to the left look like they could be a hand. (Although the hand then would have six fingers.) The tree is twisted and it gives a twisted message. A more perfect picture of evil as described in the Bible would be hard to find. This is just one example of many that we take in everyday without knowing what we are looking at. Learn to discern good from evil, and follow what is right!

On a personal note: As an artist myself I know that the person who drew this most likely did not actively think to put all of these elements together to  say what I have written about here. If you asked the artist what he/she was drawing they would have an entirely different explanation. When I drew things that I thought were coming out of my own imagination I would have denied the messages that were implied by my drawings, but messages that I did not intend came through in the things that I drew when I look back years later to see what my ‘talent’ produced. The enemy uses humans to spread his message without their direct knowledge in many cases. It happens with many forms of media: writing, drama, art, videos, music, you name it. You think your ideas are original but the fruit of your work becomes the propaganda tool of the enemy, unless you read your Bible and practice what it teaches you are easily deceived, even about your own deception.
